Concert in Munich

I didn't know that there was a concert in Munich yesterday, not shown in neither schedules (?). Read the German review here.

  1. This was the Mission launch concert for media ans business - with only some arias. Jaroussky was there for an encore duet. After concert there were huge fireworks on the premises of Schloss Schleissheim, connected to the Prince Max Emanuel , a close friend to Steffani. And during dinner, Cecilia performed a very Bavarian thing...

  6. The video of "Combatta" is in play-back ?

  8. I was on the pessimistic side from the very beginning, since the first piece of news about this film was published, and this video confrims my (and other people's) guess that the DVD will be full of lip syncing. What a pity.

  9. OMG....It was wonderful and thrilling performance. To fantastic artist making amazing music....Bellissimo

  10. Yep, the audio is definitely the one of the disc but it seems they changed the equalization to give a more realistic "live sound" (and Cecilia herself sings in a much more realistic way than in Sacrificium DVD).
By the way, nice "renaissance" hair but quite shocking she didn't have any single trace of make up…!

  12. I honestly think one shouldn't make it too important that the video is dubbed.
A CD without question is supposed to be the very best of the singers and musicians ability of the music at that time.
So we cannot expect a vidio sung live at the same standart.
If later a dvd etc. of a live performance is published than this is another or different version of the music.
We are so used to all the youtube clips published without permission that we tend to forget that an artist cannot make two or more versions of the music at the same standart of quality AT THE SAME TIME.
It would mean the CD is not the ultimate of what is possible at that moment. But that's what a recording is meant to be.

  13. I honestly think that one should feel the way he feels.
A cd IS INDEED supposed to be the very best of a singer, nobody expects a live video to be at the same standard: but nowadays with modern technique, CDs sometimes have become TOO perfect and, whereas they absolutely please the listening, they sometimes lack that "reality" a live recording can give (Cecilia herself said it many times).
I think nobody said we want the same perfection of the CD: on the contrary, i would be glad to listen to a more "imperfect" rendition of the music, because otherwise it's just "images added to the disc" which personally i don't care very much. Of course other people do, and I'm happy for them who can enjoy it.
But please, let's judge ourself what we make important.

  14. A good example is the aria «Cervo in bosco».
The studio version (included in the album «Sospiri») is so clean that it's just boring to listen. And then there are live performances and youtube recordings;) — maybe the orchestra isn't all the time at its best and the horns make us wince sometimes, but the energy and the passion of a LIVE rendition make the music sound much more interesting (and simply better) than on the CD.

  16. Anyway, in the case of the VIva Vivaldi DVD, which was filmed live at the TCE in Paris, one has to admit it's a full success, maybe even better than the CD. However, the upcoming DVD from Versailles will be most beautiful, no doubt.

  17. Oui, moi aussi je viens de recevoir le même mail de la part d'Amazon. Je suis déjà en apesanteur...

  18. So Cécilia and Philippe pretend to sing and the orchestra pretends to play?

    ReplyDelete
  19. But nevertheless, we see the tongue of Cécilia moving as if she was singing...

  20. I agree about the Vivaldi album, it is charming when it is live but anyway the music is still beautiful. I must say that Cecilia is very beautiful without makeup. She is after all a natural artist :)

  21. Dutch TV had a short (6 minutes) report of this concert with an interview with Cecilia in dirndl costume and a bit with Donna Leon. I recorded it. Fasoli shouted "quiet" to the audience when he started.24 exopenti

  22. THosa: I, too, doubt that this was a playback: the orchestration is - compared in to the CD- minuscule plus IMO there is only one slight sign of asynchronity with Cecilia, in the dacapo part, just before the end.

  23. I think, they really did sing when they recorded the video, but then layered the CD-sound over it, cause they both are too involved into it and the physical part of singing is clearly visible, especially when you watch it without a sound.
The fact, that there is few asynchronism only shows, how great they are as artists considering, they had to do several takes from different angles, to get it together.
I think, this is a beautiful rendition of the music and it does add quite something to the music.

  24. And for that matter: I'm still pretty convinced, that some parts of the Sacrificium DVD was not lips synced.
    Anyone else thinking the same?

  25. About the DVD again: in the end, it's Cecilia's choice, whether she does it in this artistically beautiful way with the backdrop of having to lip sync some or all parts or doing a live recording. I would love to have a live recording, too. Maybe at one point we will get one.
Renato talking about imperfections of live recordings, that I agree to. I don't mind a little lesser standard for them. Cecilia did several live recordings in the past and also just recently with Giulio Cesare. While they are more lively (!), they also have one huge problem if there is only one date set for a recording and agreed on to be broadcasted more or less uncut (which is really "live" then, of course) instead of doing a recording of all performances and then carefully cut it into one : audience noises sometimes can be very obtrusive, coughs, loud sneezes, cell phones ringing, especially noisy statements like some people sometimes add to a "live recording", that cannot be cut in the end (I think of the shouts of someone in the gallery in Salzburg after several of Cleopatra's arias, most obtrusive the one after "Piangero").
So it seems to be not such an easy choice...............
