Steffani AND Vivaldi?

I don't know whether one may call klassikakzente.de a trustworthy source, but Cecilia's page there says that the Mission concerts will be combined with the Vivaldi series.

For example:
31.05.2013 Essen, Philharmonie, Vivaldi, Steffani
02.06.2013 BREMEN, Die Glocke Großer Saal, Vivaldi, Steffani
And so on.

  1. Mh, quite likely that this is a mistake by klassikakzente as on Cecilia's homepage there's no Vivaldi mentioned at all. Nor on the homepages of the cities where she sings.

By the way, what's up with 'Liaisons dangereuses', wasn't that to be the title of her concerts? It turned to Mission, finally. Or am I mistaken?

    1. Well, Cecilia's site isn't the best source, although official.
So it may be a new programme. Or may be not :)

  2. I thought 'Liaisons dangereuses' was a stalking horse.

  4. I think, it HIGHLY unlikely, she will change the beautiful and totally matching two parts of Mission in lieu of combining Vivaldi and Steffani. Then it should rather be Händel, but that's not the announced version.
She has never sung the Mission in these places and I'm sure, the audiences there will get the full delight of the "original" Mission program.
Klassik Akzente has mixed those two composers before the release of the Mission CD already. The venue sites don't say anything else than Mission. But neither they nor the official CB site are a good source, as we all know. Klassik Akzente is a good source for the pure dates, but announced programs by venues or so called "official" sites have always been a tricky part with Cecilia's concerts.
She is doing the Mission tour, so don't expect anything else than Mission except for the encores.
As for the Liaisons: the Versailles program is still announced with the french twist " Mission: Liaisons dangereuses" -:).

    1. Even if Klassikakzente has made a mistake, it turned out to be a nice subject to discuss.

I think that any combination has its merits: you can see how the art developed and changed (like Cecilia's previous Vivaldi+Gluck, Vivaldi+Handel, Salieri+Haydn, Haydn+Rossini). In case of Steffani who is «linking» different periods of the baroque music, it would be a very instructive concert series.
On the other hand, a one-composer evening is a nice thing too, because it makes it possible to understand composer's personality deeply and get to know his art in an «abacterial» environment. The problem is that the Handelian encores break the musical «purity» of Mission.

    2. I would prefer that she sings some Steffani encores (and not only Haendel encores). Some beautiful arias on the CD are not included in the program.

By the way, it was said that Cecilia will participate on the new album of Philippe Jaroussky. He has taken a break until September - I do not know if it has been already recorded and what composer(s) it is about.

  5. Well I suppose that Liasons Dangereuses was chosen because of the various aspckts of Steffanis life and personality . The Bartoli marketing linked him with a long forgotten and irrelevant diplomatic murder in order to add some more spice to the story. The Leon novel stressed this "link", obviously the cross marketing ,however, didn`t work too well, so things and titles were changed. Just MHO. And maybe Bartoli just wants a bit of a change i her programs: dates before Essen and in Kissingen say "Mission" again, without Vivaldi. Maybe she is also testing audience reactions to the vivaldi 2.o which has already been recorded with spinosi for later release.

    1. I don't think, Cecilia is testing anything at all, cause she doesn't know about the websites announcement -:).
She loves Mission very much and would never tear it apart. Just MHO....

    2. You mean Cecilia recorded another Vivaldi album with Spinosi?

    3. Actually, Cecilia's Mission concert at the salle Pleyel, Paris, on 13 November 2012, was titled "Liaisons dangereuses". It appears that this title refers to the life of Steffani. Moreover, as Didymus said, her concert scheduled at Versailles on 16 June 2013, is titled "Liaisons dangereuses".

  6. This was officially recorded as an "archive".... Maybe it will be released one day like the "archive" recording of an Handel Album she did with Giardino...

  7. Well you guys are telling some news....some nice news. If this is true that Cecilia will record a new Vivaldi album...then it is a fantastic news. Her earlier album with Vivaldi was amazing. So I'm looking forward :)

  8. Well, I am much more interested in the Handel album. I think it is a real pity and also an almost tragic consequence of marketing strategies that the - perhaps - greatest Handel singer of present times has not released a Handel recital recording.
Is there a collection of pictures or writing about this archiv recording somewhere?

  9. One can only hope, that one day, these recordings will be published. The Vivaldi as much as the Händel program are some of the absolute highlights of Cecilia's art from the last 10 years.
It really is a shame, that the Händel hasn't been released for the Händel year.
But I'm sure, all good things will come to an end -:).
And till then, we have, for example, the incredible Mission program to enjoy.
