    1. It looks a bit agressive. They must have intended to shock those who do not like Bartoli's Norma even more :)

    2. You bet it's aggressive! On a very first moment I thought graphics at Decca had mistaken the cover for Cavalleria Rusticana...

I could be wrong but i really do have the impression that Cecilia wanted to pay tribute to the great italian actress Anna Magnani (since she was famous for her incredibly dramatic interpretations).

Afterall, she already gave hommage to Anita Ekberg in "La dolce vita"...

  6. This is big news indeed! I've been waiting for this project since I first heard about it in 2011! I've been searching around for a release date in the US, but have yet to see one. Anyone else find anything further information on release dates?

  7. Facebook post: “It was my wish to bring Bellini’s opera closer to the sound world of the bel canto period. Alongside the vocal casting in keeping with the voices at the first performance, a critical edition compiled from the autograph score, adherence to the original tempi, dynamics and phrasing, lowering the pitch to 430 hz and using authentic instruments as of the period all play their part in allowing the manifold nuances of this work to come to the fore, and for the composer’s vision hopefully to be fulfilled.” Cecilia Bartoli

  9. "Sarà una Norma fuori norma!"

Renato, Gramilano has the same association as you (or ar you the same person?) concerning her probable tribute to Anna Magnani.

  10. Hello Charlotte, no we're not the same person :-)

It looks like Gramilano has read an article on "Corriere della Sera" that I didn't catch and I suppose Cecilia herself confirmed in the interview the association with Magnani (it says that the whole production will be on a neoralist and Rossellini look).

Well, to me it sounds way better than what we saw last year for GC, let's wait and see. :-)
