The selected about 17 superfans

I counted about 17 winners of the Superfan competition on the Decca page and surprisingly none of the regulars of the present Forum are among them (but congratulations to Brian Harvey, the only Superfan I know and who did a lot for me).
What I think is that Cecilia or Decca wanted to honour fans who did not all (?) have much chance to see her live and that she/they found it impossible to choose between the fans who can go often to concerts and know her and eachother well. Didn't they want anybody to feel left out?
But more surprising is that it are only about 17 fans. I had expected 50 winners.
It would be quite interesting to hear here of fans who did get the prize and do read this forum.
Congratulations in any case.

  1. Hello, just want to say someone posted the whole album on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plQj7PoGUuE

    1. Thanks for this discovery and information. The arias are so beautiful!

    2. Shame on the person. Cecilia put so much effort into the project. Is this the Zeitgeist, to steal and illegally release it on YouTube? What a poor world.....:'(. I won't hear it there for the first time.

  2. Hello everybody! I still find this Superfan-campaign totally out-of-space and don´t get it. But it seems, that this becomes kind of a fashion in the Classic-World. In "Klassikradio" (a german radio channel) Lang Lang is looking for the "Super-Mozart"Fan". Can you believe it? The prize is a ticket for a Lang Lang concert and a short "Meet&Greet" after the performance. I would say much better than a Pin badge, but that`s just my opinion :-) I still believe Cecilia agreed on this "Fan-campaign-thingy" , because the label-people told her and she is just to nice for this world :-) Greetings to all of you, Koile,

    1. I totally agree with you, Koile. On facebook I found only two (!!!) contributions against this stupid campaign and Cecilia's involvement, prudential like yours. Look here:

  3. Il me semble que Joyce DiDonato en fait autant pour la promotion de son dernier CD...C'est grotesque, cette mode !

  4. There is very much a risk of offending the actual superfans.

  5. I would not call it a stupid campaign. If you see who the winner is (an autistic girl, I am autistic too) it becomes clear what the thought behind it was, quite sweet.
The world should not become too cynical. Music much belongs to the realm of fantasy, imagination, wonder, amazement, ideology.
Or did "we"not win because nobody took part? I doubt that.

    1. I agree with you: the way it ended up was probably the best one possible.

Participation was not obligatory. I wouldn't call anybody stupid just becase he or she took part in this «competition». If the campaign annoyed a person, he should have just ignored it (just like me).

Let's wait for the release and, much more important, the concerts.

  6. I like Ton's point of view: 'What I think is that Cecilia or Decca wanted to honour fans who did not all (?) have much chance to see her live'. It was a chance for people to reach her, they could tell her their feelings and explain their relation to her.

Though I still think it's a totally stupid idea to raffle a pin badge. Unbelievable.

    Have a good night
    Charlotte

  7. Well, they've tried another new way of promoting. Hopefully that's all.
What I personally find much more annoying is all that track by track «prelistening» here and there even before the official release. It sounds to me a cry of agony of those whose work is to sell. And I'm not speaking about illegal copying — it's about the general tendency to buy CDs less (and, as the world shrinks, listening more and more live).

    1. I have the album and is very beatiful yet I think that after what she achieved in sacrificium she hasn't managed to surpass it... I think she should return to the castrati territoriy, she's born to sing that music ¿why not a Farinelli arias cd? greetings from Austria

    2. I am glad I started this thread. There are some interesting responses.
If you see the pictures of Cecilia going through the contest contributions, I see that many had done more than replying electronically. Indeed a way for people to show their love and Decca also says it is a collective way of showing our love to Cecilia.
I just wish they had written that the winner got invited to the Versailles opening concert with all expenses paid (it costs 700 euro to go there but should be nothing for Decca).
How it is possible that people already have the CD and put it on Youtube is beyond my understanding.

    3. As the grandfather of the overall winner of the superfan competition and the one who made the entry, I can assure everyone that my grandaughter is over the moon and looking forward to her prize. Her condition puts hurdles in front of her that most of us thankfully do not have to overcome and music plays a big part in helping her cope.

    1. Dear Dr B, I love, adore Sacrificium, I think it is one of the greatest operatic recordings ever made, in the same level of Sutherland's Art of the prima Donna or Callas' Norma and Tosca, Sacrificium is the only album which give us a reasonable approach to the art of a lost kind of singer, I think Cecilia is the closest we can have to a castrati voice and virtuosity, I hope she decides to record another cd dedicated to castratis.

    3. Interview with Jonathan Coates from Decca today went very well I think. He put my grandaughter at ease and even coached her a little on the piano. We were delighted that he brought a collection of great CD's and DVD's to add to the prize. We very much enjoyed this visit from a very pleasant gentleman who Rachel-Anne referred to later as "a very nice man". She passed a thank you note to him with a request that he forward it to Cecilia.

    4. I discover your post only now, Allan. That is nice to read and I'm happy to hear that your grandaughter will see and listen to more Cecilia on the CDs and DVDs Mr Coates brought with him. All the best to you and your grandaughter!

    5. Dear Allan, I'm glad, that your granddaughter got the price and loads of more music in addition. Her story certainly is one, that reached Cecilia directly in a very deep way. I'm sure, she might even respond to the thank you note -:).All the best to you and your granddaughter.

    6. I am also very glad that the winner got more than just the CD and pin and that Decca made the perfect choice of winner. Well deserved. Congratulations-
And it also proves the critics very wrong who thought this was a silly competition.
No better winner to prove Decca did the right nice thing.

    7. Thank you Ton. Rachel-Anne says she intends to wear her badge when it arrives so that when people ask about it she can let everyone at school know about Cecilias music. As Cecilia said in a recent interview featured on this site, it is important for children to be introduced to good music early in life.

I remember when in Primary School, 60 years ago, the headmaster used to bring in a wind up gramophone to the class every Friday afternoon and play 78rpm classical music after carefully cleaning the discs with a blue velvet pad. I still appreciate that grounding to this day.
