THIS thread can be used for comments about concerts

Dear fans,
I feel we need a new thread for comments about concerts.
The one about the Amsterdam postponement is not quite the right one.
One would have to read it all to find out about concert experiences.
Long reports of course under Personal Reviews with a mentioning in this thread that one has done so. Is that OK?

  3. I am still spellbound and overwhelmed, so it's not easy to find words. Cecilia was so radiant and expressive. She gave 5 encores. The audience was overjoyed. O placido il mare was electrifying. More later.

  5. Ah, the concert yesterday was indeed overwhelming! It 's hard to put this great experience into words, but it is everything you are hoping for when you go to a concert of Cecilia. She was great, and also very funny! Such a perfect voice, which touches you in the emotional songs and cheers you up in the faster ones! It was also great to experience the cheering of the enthousiastic audience, the shouts of 'bravo' and 'encore'. And encores we got! It was an amazing evening. Catherine

  6. Thank you, Catherine. That was well said: 'It is everything you are hoping for, when you go to a concert of Cecilia'. :) This describes exactly my Köln experience, too.

Her is a very nice review of Paris, I already put it in the review section: by Il Tenero Momento.

  7. I will write a lot too but I think it was 10 times more than one can possibly hope for. Out of this world and the longest concert ever, 2 hours, 50 minutes.
She will sign in Paris on the 7th and unofficially in Amsterdam (probably outside artist foyer on the top floor). She said to me (waiting with 50 others outside in nice weather) that she will have to and that it is big fun..
    More later.

  10. So this Paris concert was SUPER-FABU-WONDER-TASTIC.
    Start at 20.00 H.
    break at 21.00 H.
    Re-start 21.20 H
    End 22.10 H.
    Encores till 22.50 !!
No signing (but on 7th) but Cecilia met 50 waiting fans outside in nice warm weather.

At first I got a feeing the acoustics are not great but that improved soon.
Generally the orchestra playing at best, fiercely, but obviously it's hard for a trumpestist to play faultless. Fasolis is a very energetic conductor and great joy to watch.
Concert went "nicely" till Porpora's Germanico in Germania sinfonia which got great applause and was a joy in it's own right.
Then Pastor che a notte which I did not recognise at first by lots of birdsong sounds as if birds had let gone loose on stage Cecilia sang it unlike on the CD.. Even more so in O placido il Mare with a long-held note on MARE and embelliishments
The audience went crazy and Cecilia got a big bunch of flowers from a fan (never seen that before before a break) . Hardly anyone got onto their feet though (like in Amsterdam).
Then the second part was ONE BIG FEAST of joy.
Especiially Hasse's Se mai senti (emotional) and Vo disperato a morte (fierce and energetic, with more embellishments) were a gift from Heaven.
Nobil onda, again Porpora, as if to show Porpora was still superior to those Italians and Germans in St Petersburg, also richer than on CD (see Youtube if still there),
By this time I was sure Cecilia is not a mere mortal but a Angel sent from Heaven to make everybody very happy.
Then more encores than the 4 arias in the second half !
What singer does that, except angels?
These are mentioned in another thread (about Cologne) but the 2 Vivaldi's not one after another.. Excellent diversity in tempo, starting with a glorious A facile vittoria with battle with the brass (see also Youtube if still there).
By the way, Cecilia wore a white glittery gown before break and exact same blue one after break, first entering stage with a very long tail which she detached. Last encore dressed as a tsarina and walking away like one before coming back
2 gift bags for her and a bunch of flowers from fans.
It was great to hear Parisians can be so very enthusiastic and shouting. I would not expect that, a pleasant surprise.
Now I am looking forward to Amsterdam as it is still my favourite concert hall and nicer atmosphere. TCE has a small black stage.the lighting was super-great but in Amsterdam Cecilia is surrounded by audience and altogether nicer, more a "centre of it all".
    Autographs unofficially. ..
For me the importance of these concerts is that it makes my problems disappear like snow before the sun Things I had on my mind before (nagging disappointments by people) vanished into thin air because of a re-newed love I have for everyone, made possible by Cecilia's love for us as expressed in her music and behaviour. Cecilia the miracle therapist.

  11. Ton, that's absolutely wonderful! I get goose bumps reading your text. Yes, there is something in Cecilia - and that she is so generous wih - which heals our souls.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, very healing experiences.. She said it herself somewhere that it is therapy.
Amsterdam will not be sold out and I was thinking that those people who aren't coming (it was also not sold out at all before the postponement) don't have the faintest idea what they are going to miss.
    A big mystery to me.

  15. I am looking forward to Amsterdam, too - 2nd attempt to hear and see Cecilia.
Ton, what do you/does Cecilia mean with "unofficial" signing? And isn't the artists' foyer on the last floor? Last year I followed the stream of people ...

Please keep your fingers crossed that the railway strike won't start at Wednesday. Is anybody of you coming from Germany by car via A 30 and could pick me up at Osnabrueck, if the worst case happens? Or a Dutch fan coming from the very east, picking me up at Bad Bentheim (I could go there by a private train company which won't strike). Please contact me: christiane.tillner@gmx.de Thanks!

    2. Thanks for asking, Charlotte! Yes, after a lot of stress because of the railway strike in Germany finally everything went well: I could go by "my" train to Amsterdam (when you posted your question I was already on the way) and returned today (first day of strike) by "Fernbus". I just arrived at home and looked at the forum to post first impressions of the Amsterdam concert.

  16. I asked Cecilia if there will be an official signing session (announced by the Concertgebouw), but she said no, but that it will be like in Paris,, a small group of people who goes anyway. The artists foyer is on the top floor behind the organ. Last year was an "official" signing on the ground floor, the Champagne bar.

  17. Concert in Amsterdam: overwhelming, breathtaking, unforgettable, wonderful! Cecilia was in such a good mood and her voice fantastic. 5 encores, the same as in Cologne and Paris. And an official signing session with a Cecilia still full of energy. She talked and laughed and had fun with all the presents given to her ... When I left at nearly 1 pm this night, there were still many people waiting to Cecilia.

I am so glad that I could manage to travel to Amsterdam a second time, to my first St. Petersburg concert. I wish all of you wonderful concerts and Cecilia that she stays healthy and will still enjoy her "St. Petersburg - The European Tour".

    1. I forgot to mention that the atmosphere was great and the audience enthusiastic and sensitive: After the lyric arias the applause didn't come too early so that Cecilia got a chance to emerge out of the roles and emotions - and nearly no disturbing coughs.

  19. Dear fans,
I will still write my own long review of the Amsterdam concert but under "Personal reviews" I have now translated partly 3 Dutch newspaper reviews and 1 from a opera magazine, I did not know there was a limit of 4094 signs so I had to limit myself and I could not use links to the newspaper reviews but one can google them (NRC, Volkskrant and Operamagazine.nl)

    Ton

    ReplyDelete
  20. Now also a REAL review by me. Still it felt best to have the newspaper reviews also there where they will not "get lost". Enjoy.
And google LUISTER.NL for how the magazine looks like, 5 huge Decca pictures of her.
costs 7,95 3 ig ages of interview.
"is there another Cecilia, a woman when home who is not busy with music?
Yes, that other Cecilia never agrees with what I want. That says what you are going to do now is bad" And then I tell her, Not it IS good and I will do it anyway. In my head constantly conflicts are being fought But I love that. I want to be a queen and a pirate at the same tine. I have traits of a chameleon and how I am at home you better ask my husband (Oliver Widmer, I spoke with him in Paris and he said the whole tour had been in jeopardy if Amsterdam had not been postponed).

Could we also meet you in a kitchen?
Yes, absolutely. I love to be there making pasta. not as good as my mothers or grandmother but I can do it. I have a modest background. My grandmother was a farmer, my parents lived on a farm. I have experienced how that felt It was near Parma with hot summers.

Were they the living example of how you remain with both feet on the ground?
Yes, by her I know what hard working means. She had not an easy life. My granddad told me about the war and how he fought in Russia. All those stories I carry with and have taught me that every day is important.

I guess we can find here the explanation why Cecilia is such a lovely person and easy to approach.

  28. Unfortunately the interview is conducted by one of the most stupid hosts in german television.
He's subtly degrading and prejeduced, telling her because of her italien temperament she's is talking fast and 'everything is coming out at once' (the words).
He's been in trouble a couple of times before because of his arrogant behaviour. Guests have been leaving his show while on air (as in the case of a german actress).
Too bad. Instead of interesting questions once again clichés and mistakes.
I wonder how Cecilia puts up with it, no wonder she doesn't really answer questions anymore but instead just tells the same story again and again, bringing the subject back to her tour and the current project no matter what the question is.

    1. I would like to put my 2-Cents into this comment of Anonymous. First I don´t like this moderator as less as you do, but this is a local TV magazine for the North of Germany and so a lot of people are watching the show not especially for Cecilia but for local news. I guess they had to “introduce” her to the main audience. Secondly I think translating her is always not the best idea, because she has to listen to the button in her ear and then she has to answer it in English (not in Italian, which would have made more sense to me). I agree with you: we as her fans are longing for more interesting questions, but all the interviews she gave the last weeks were on the “same track”. Maybe it wasn´t an elegant way to address to her, that she is full of energy and alive (maybe he couldn´t handle it very well), but I believe he admires her. Sadly, Cecilia didn´t really answer the questions. Could be a problem with the translation? Watching her last night in this interview gave me the impression she liked it and felt comfortable and relaxed. I don´t think she felt attacked by him or unhappy.

That leads me to my idea: why do we not collect some really interesting questions distance from this typical “bla bla” and try to get them to Cecilia via her marketing Team or DECCA? Maybe we can convince her doing a live chat – why not? I know, she is not really a big fan of the internet, but alas, that´s the way people communicate today. Or we write down the questions on paper and put it in a bottle, throw it in the Lake of Zurich and hope she gets it :-)

I can´t open a new thread but maybe if you are interested in discussing this idea, someone else can arrange it.

Thank you for your time and greetings!

      Koile

Yesterdays concert was shorter than in Paris and Amsterdam, 3 encores with Destero as last aria of main programme, 20 minutes shorter. Rapturous applause. The big fans like Klaus all on first row, stamping their feet. No long standing ovations but at least NO coughing at all !!
No signing session but Cecilia had some time at artists exit.
