More words......."My First Time - How I got hooked on Cecilia Bartoli" is out

Just in time for Christmas: The book 'My First Time - How I got Hooked on Cecilia Bartoli' is finally on the market! It is a cloth-bound hardcover of 83 pages, contains 21 very diverse, very personal stories. I was very happy to give Cecilia 'her book' after the Amsterdam concert. She was very pleased and called it 'favoloso'. If you're interested in getting a copy for yourself or as the perfect gift for that friend who already has all Bartoli-CDs and DVDs you can do so at cost price of 15 Euro. Just send me an email:

Program change for the "Mozart and the Viennese Classic" concerts ?

On the site of the Concertgebouw and Salle Pleyel, they have a program for the upcoming concerts now.

Mozart - Exsultate, jubilate in F, KV 165
J. Haydn - Allegro assai (uit 'Symfonie nr. 52')
Mozart - Non più, tutto ascoltai ... Non temer, amato bene, KV 490
Myslivecek - Ouverture (uit 'Il Medonte')
Myslivecek - Aria 'Se mai senti' (uit 'La clemenza di Tito')
J. Haydn - Aria 'Al tuo seno fortunato' (uit 'L'anima del filosofo, ossia Orfeo ed Euridice', Hob. XXVIII: 13)
J. Haydn - Rondo all'ungherese (uit 'Pianoconcert', Hob. XIV:13)
Mozart - Aria 'Deh, per questo istante solo' (uit 'La Clemenzo di Tito', KV 621)
Vanhal - Finale. Allegro (uit 'Symfonie in g', Bryan g1, op. 17 nr. 2)
Mozart - Aria 'Parto, parto' (uit 'La Clemenzo di Tito', KV 621)
Kraus - Ouverture (uit 'Olympie'), VB 29
J. Haydn - Berenice, che fai?, Hob. XXIVa: 10

In an older post, the Kammerorchester Basel site  had announced a slightly different aria program and on a violinists personal blog, it also had been confirmed even as a planned recording.
Initially, Mozart was represented by two of my favorite arias I was looking forward to hear again live:

"Bella mia fiamma.....Resta, o cara", KV 528 (1787)
"Ah, lo previdi!...Ah, t`invola......Deh, non Vacar", KV 272

So now, Beethoven also has disappeared and Gluck doesn't appear either contrary to the still active announcement on the other venues sites.

I wonder, if the publication of the supposedly initial plan of that program had changed it in the end.

The Steffani Project

Sounds like a new CD?
Well, according to this , it's going to be released on November 4th.

But hold your breath. It might be interesting as a nice Christmas present or for those not having bought the second and third Steffani CD from Decca conducted by Diego Fasolis yet.

It will contain the Deluxe Version of Mission  with  the hardcover book, the Stabat Mater and the Dances and Ouvertures as released before.

The Cleopatra Virtuosa CD petiton

As it sometimes happens, a post develops sidetracks, that get lost for some readers of this forum, as they only read the headline and maybe a couple of replies to some post but don't have the time or the interest in more.
So did this post .
As a result of it, an author created a CD petition site on Facebook .

I was asked by some authors, to add a new post and bring the subject to a bigger audience.
Which I do by this new post.
People, who added replies to it in the former post should feel free, to add them here again as I can't simply move comments to a new post, though I'm the administrator. This is a bug in Blogs, that should be resolved some day.

Have fun discussing. I very much liked the active and lively action going on around the famous exclusive "Cleopatra virtuosa" concert in Salzburg  2012.

Handel Heroines in Moscow (and the Cleopatra discussion)

Mi mancano le parole…
There are no words to describe the concert. It was one of the most wonderful impressions one can only imagine. The programme was just a bit different from the past seasons: there was no «Da tempeste», and «V'adoro, pupille» was replaced by «Lascia la spina» (is Il Piacere a heroine? ;-)
Naturally Alcina's magnificent aria «Ah! mio cor» became the climax of the evening; a very touching and moving performance.

Cecilia was most generous to sing four encores:
  1. «Amami, e vederai» by Agostino Steffani;
  2. «A facile vittoria» by Steffani too (with a great trumpet player);
  3. «O sleep» from Handel's «Semele»;
  4. and the da capo from «Desterò».
A photo by somebody from the audience, another one, even more.

Some links for you

Euronews filmed the piano rehersal of 'Norma', of course only parts of it are shown (commented in German). And Euronews asked Giovanni Antonini about Norma, he says: 'Questo cambia tutto' (no comments, only him talking in Italian).

And read a very nice and touching German interview that Verena sent me: Chrismon, a Christian newspaper.

A review of her concert in Essen with beautiful high resolution pictures in 'Revierpassagen'.

Program of the Viennese Classics concerts........has been removed

from  the website of the Kammerorchester Basel, it  consisted of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven....
Interesting is, that the Prag website stated, it would be  a brand new program.
Anyway. This is, how it was announced :

Ludwig van Beethoven
"Ah Perfido" Szene und Arie für Sopran und Orchester op. 65

Joseph Haydn

»Berenice, che fai« Kantate für Sopran und Orchester

"Al tuo seno fortunato" Arie des Genio aus "Orfeo ed Euridici"

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

 "Bella mia fiamma.....Resta, o cara", KV 528 (1787)

"Ah, lo previdi!...Ah, t`invola......Deh, non Vacar", KV 272

"Exsultate Jubilate", KV 165 (18a)

So maybe it will change again??

Radio portrait and article

Enjoy a radio portrait of Cecilia, almost half an hour. It's Germain, some of Cecilia's answers in English can be listened to without simultaneous translation. Very nice one. :)

And here an article of German newspaper 'Die Welt'. In the end the interviewer asks her, whether she considers to stage operas just as Villanzon does. She answers, laughing, 'No, no, no, no, much to complicated!' And the journalist ends with the sentence: 'As if singing on Bartoli level was as easy as it sounds with her.'

Interview in Austrian Newspaper

'Salzburger Nachrichten' made an interview with Cecilia about Norma, of course, and her directorship. She gave a little hint about the next theme: "the audience always wants to be stimulated and surprised. Therefore, in 2014 probably something funny, excessive, maybe even a theme about a man."

Any ideas?

Picture from 'Norma'

I found it on the twitter account of Moshe Leiser. :)

We are all waiting for Norma, so here is a nice video

with Cecilia, but not as Norma.
It's a long english interview by a czech interviewer and looks quite recent. Maybe from last year? Nothing real new, but Cecilia in a wonderful relaxed interview. Lots of fun in it.

Article/interview about Norma on "il Corriere della Sera" (7.4.2013)

Here's the article on the "Corriere della Sera"mentioned by GraMilano.

"The priestess won't be a goddess or a heroine of a greek tragedy, but a real woman [...] a woman from the south, ready to defy gods and men to gain Pollione's love. [...] She will be like a she-wolf (as intended by Giovanni Verga in his novel "La Lupa"), like Anna Magnani. An image of flaming sensuality that I took as a model even in the look: loose and messy hair, tight black dress, provocatively low-necked... Like the neo-realist setting, a tribute to Rossellini conceived by Patrice Caurier. A "black and white" show."

So, in Versailles it will be Steffani's Stabat Mater.
Well, we already know it, but now it's officially announced on the Barocchisti's page:

The Ory dvd/br date and Vivaldi+Steffani

So, says that the release of «Le Comte Ory» (the Zurich version) is scheduled for June 2013. Some time ago this recording circulated in the Internet — a nice opera recording by Olivier Simonnet (though I must say I'd have preferred the Vienna version).

Remember my discovery of the Steffani+Vivaldi programme? The source was that time. Now it's Decca's turn to say the same:

    Salvatore Vitale, Basse
  • Choeur de la Radio et Télévision Suisse Italienne

So maybe Daniel Behle was contributing something to the Mission? ;-)

Steffani AND Vivaldi?

I don't know whether one may call a trustworthy source, but Cecilia's page there says that the Mission concerts will be combined with the Vivaldi series.

For example:
31.05.2013 Essen, Philharmonie, Vivaldi, Steffani
02.06.2013 BREMEN, Die Glocke Großer Saal, Vivaldi, Steffani
And so on.
